The Government is trying to encourage mass adoption of electric cars. But are they too expensive?

The idea that electric cars in the UK are too expensive for most people is not a new suggestion. With high costs of charging and the initial purchase price being much higher than petrol cars, how much of a problem is it? We first measured consumer sensitivity to the price of electric cars in a survey among 2,012 GooPoll members in February 2021.

We wanted to get a sense for

• the overall price level perception of electric cars
• whether opinions vary by age group
• price levels considered affordable
